History

From its inception, the club regarded the assembly of the reserve team as an opportunity to collaborate with local teams from West Queens and South Bronx areas. The goal would be to have these teams manage the reserve team and experience the CSL (Cosmopolitan Soccer League). It would be a great opportunity for an established team looking to compete in the best league in the city. There is no relegation or promotion in the reserve division which offers less pressure to the debutant team. This initiative has been in progress since the 2014-2015 season. The project has been successful in broadening the scope of the club's activities within prominent soccer-playing neighborhoods.

Sporting debuted their reserve team in the fall of 2014. It was organized by a former CSL D3 team named Queens United that decided to join Sporting Astoria during the summer. The team participated in the CSL Reserve Second Division for a period of five seasons, achieving the D2 division championship in their 2016-2017 season - finishing first in their group and prevailing in the division playoffs. The team was close to capturing a second trophy that season but had to settle for a runners up finish in the Harry J. Saunders 2018 Cup Final. The team would go on to reach the Harry J Saunders Cup Final again the following year but fell short finishing again as runners up.

In the summer of 2018, the club entered into a partnership with Bronx soccer club SBU (South Bronx United). SBU would function as the reserve team for the club for over two seasons. SBU would make the move to the EDSL (Eastern District Soccer League) ad a founding member of the newly created East River Division. But after two season, the club would return to the CSL.

In the summer of 2024, the club entered into a partnership with Huntaz Football Club, a local Bronx-based team, to serve as their reserve team for the 2024-2025 season marking the club's return to the CSL 2nd division.

For the 2025-2026 season, SBU have re-entered a partnership with Sporting Astoria to function as the clubs official reserve team. To commemorate the partnership, the club name listed in the league website will now display the club as Sporting Astoria South Bronx United.
