SASC was founded by the Romero Family, immigrants from Lima, Peru. The Romero Family brought with them their love of soccer to Astoria which was the foundation for the working class culture of the club.
The Romero Family founded Sporting in the 1930's, a team sponsored by their family business - Empresas Sporting - that the family owned and operated in the district of Rimac. The successful sports manufacturing company was one of many clubs that laid the foundation for current pro side Sporting Cristal of the Peruvian Liga 1.
Current club president Ed Romero, is responsible for the clubs formation and development. Under his tutelage the club grew from a recreational team into a semi professional team achieving promotion to the American Premier Soccer League (APSL) - formerly Eastern Premier Soccer League (EPSL) - for the 2020-2021 season. Most notably, Ed was able to expand the Sporting Astoria brand to the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx allowing them to form Bronx based teams to respresent or partner with the club.
After the COVID19 pandemic, the club explored other leagues but returned to the Cosmopolitan Soccer League for the 2023-2024 season. Currently the club operates 4 teams - D2, D2 Reserve, D3, and Over 40 Division.
Ed Romero and Romero Family are committed to creating a club that will forever represent their family roots, love of the game, a working class work ethic, and pride for their town of Astoria, Queens.
