History
From its inception, the club regarded the assembly of the reserve team as a chance to collaborate with local teams from the South Bronx and West Queens to meet the Cosmopolitan Soccer League's top tier reserve team requirement. The initiative under consideration has been in progress since its inception and is focused on broadening the scope of the club's activities within prominent soccer-playing neighborhoods.
For the 2014-2015 season, Sporting assembled their inaugural reserve team through a merger with CSL Third Division friends Queens United. The team participated in the CSL Reserve Second Division for a period of five seasons, at the conclusion of which it was declared the winner of the 2016-2017 season. This triumph was achieved by attaining the highest rank in its group and prevailing in the division playoffs. In addition, the team achieved second place in the Harry J. Saunders Cup competitions in both 2017 and 2018.
In the summer of 2018, the club entered into a partnership with Bronx soccer club South Bronx United. SBU functioned in the capacity of reserve team for the club over the course of two seasons. Thereafter, the club joined the EDSL and its newly established East River Division, thereby becoming a founding member of the aforementioned division.
In the summer of 2024, the club entered into a partnership with Huntaz Football Club, a local Bronx-based team, to serve as their reserve team for the 2024-2025 season.
However, SBU have re-entered a partnership with Sporting to function as the clubs official reserve team for the 2025-2026 season. The club will now be called Sporting Astoria South Bronx United.
